Bean Bag Chair Safety
When shopping for a bean bag chair, especially for a child, it is important to keep safety in mind. Use the following tips as safety guidelines when selecting a bean bag chair.
Chair Size
Be sure to buy the right size chair for the size of the occupant. A small child can easily climb on to the top of a large chair and fall off. Sizes of bean bag chairs are varied so it is easy to find the appropriate size.
Chair Placement
Be sure to place bean bag chairs on carpet or a soft surface to prevent the chair from sliding around. Keep the chair away from sharp or angular surfaces (such as fireplace bricks) that could potentially puncture the exterior fabric.
Fire Safety
Shop for a chair that will satisfy strict fire code requirements including California Bulletin 117 Section E [pdf], UFAC Class 1, and BIFMA F-1-1978.
Safety Zipper
Bean bag Styrofoam can be a potential choking or suffocation hazard. Make sure the bean bag chair has a safety lock which makes it difficult for children to access the chairs interior. All of the bean bag chairs sold on our site contain a zipper safety lock and double panel bottom.
